From Carving to Coffee

  • 13 years old

    At age 13, Kathryn traveled to the Cook Islands where she was given the opportunity to carve a Mother of Pearl Shell. She was captivated by the island art style and how each beautiful motif conveys profound meaning.

  • 18 years old

    Seeing she had natural talent for carving from her previous experience; Kathryn returned for 3 summers to the Islands to cultivate her carving abilities. Over time she refined her artistic expression to unveil a vibrant story with each piece.

  • 24 years old

    Starting from secret sips from Grandma and finding herself employed at the university cafe, Kathryn’s coffee journey continued. After many years as a barista, she started roasting where her knowledge of coffee blossomed along with her love for a cup well done.

  • 26 years old

    Combining both her passion for coffee and carving, Kathryn launched her own roasting company in the beginning of 2025. Her expression of creativity and intentionality is the foundation of Carved Coffee.

Our mission at Carved Coffee is to make coffee lovers feel valued. From the precision of the coffee roasting to the expression of the original art on each bag, we want each customer to start the day with inspiration.

Each coffee is paired with a hand-carved block print. Designs shaped by changing seasons, remote trails, and the quiet clarity that comes with doing something the hard way.

Over the years my love for coffee has grown as I moved from barista to cafe manager, to coffee roaster to, now, business owner. Paired with my passion for an excellent cup of coffee is my passion for small business. Just like small businesses, coffee brings people together.
